POPCOM VII the Regional Office in Central Visayas under the leadership of Regional Director Atty. Bruce N. Ragas and Asst. Regional Director Darlynn S. Remolino, through this press release greets today Happy 6th Birthday to six (6) Symbolic 100 Millionth Babies in Central Visayas who are celebrating the occasion.  They are:  Paul James Gregory Intes from Sogod, Cebu; Kyle Olindang from Pinamungajan, Cebu; Necon Callao from Tayasan, Negros Oriental; a baby from San Jose, Negros Oriental; Julie Ann Mae Astronomo from Bonbon, Calape, Bohol; and Ivan Maurice Gamalo from Siquijor.  These former babies are now children aged 6 years old and POPCOM VII continues with its tradition of monitoring the status of their health and well-being in coordination with the Population Officers in the region.  To recall, when the Philippine population reached 100 million last July 27, 2014, POPCOM identified babies born between 12:01 to 1:00 in the morning to symbolize the challenge of service and program providers in government to care for them and their families,  on their health and total well-being, among others.  This year’s theme to celebrate the occasion is: “”Bigyang Halaga ang Bawat Pinoy sa Pag unlad, Ngayon at Bukas: Sa Kanyang Ika-Anim na Taon Siguraduhin ang Kanyang Kalusugan at Edukasyon.”

The occasion to celebrate with them in a simple party/gathering and gift-giving at the moment is greatly affected by the current health crisis in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.  However, POPCOM VII has coordinated with the respective Population Officers: Ms. Nena Arche (Sogod, Cebu); Ms. Bernadette Atil (Pinamungajan, Cebu); Dr. Mirasol Zuniega (Tayasan, Negros Oriental); Ms. Vera Villaflores and Mr. Nicolas Rey Aguilar (San Jose, Negros Oriental); Ms. Virginia Cubelo (Calape, Bohol); and Hilmer Ongue (Siquijor) for them to monitor the health status and well-being of the children based on the monitoring tool. Some of these children had already attended day care centers in 2019 prior to the pandemic, as confirmed by some Population Officers.

Last year, the occasion was celebrated with a press conference held in Cebu City with Cebu-based children Paul James and Kyle (then, 5) and gift-giving in the presence of representatives from PhilHealth, the Department of Health, the Nutrition Center of the Philippines, some partners and representatives from LGUs.  In Bohol, Julie Ann was given a birthday treat at McDo in Tubigon together with POPCOM VII’s Michael Pacios and Calape, Bohol Population Officer Virginia Cubelo.
